I don't think this book is a good one for people new to programming, or even people who know c but not c++. I bought it for a c++ class I took, however, I had sort of prepped for the class in the months preceding it by studying and doing examples from Problem Solving with C++ by Walter Savitch (which I DO think is a good book for beginners). I am actually a pretty accomplished programmer even before that class - I knew C very well (used to work as a programmer in C).

The author is simply not good at presenting material for the beginner. In my case, since I had pretty much already learned most all the material in the book previously, I ended up using sometimes as a reference for my class when needed. For that purpose it is better suited. But it is sold as an instructional book. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. Buy a better book like one by Walter Savitch.

Awesome
Great book for learning c++.
Awesome book with a plethora of examples to aid even newest people to the idea of programming. For me, C++ was a new language, but I already knew other languages going in and I was never bored. It is easy to skim through, and the full color examples and defined syntax make everything very clear.

I'm using the book alongside my intro to C++ class as an aid (not required) and the course is almost exactly following the flow of the book.
Purchased this textbook for an online class. Self-teaching, I've had difficulty assimilating the pointer concept and it's usage.
Reading ahead, I've discovered Malik's approach to the subject illuminating. As in "I get it! (With mandatory light-bulb.)" Didn't happen with other C++ textbooks I've tried so far--as good as they were.
My other major conceptual roadblock, classes, is the end of the next semester's class. Wish me luck.

Great service! There is nothing that needs to be improved at all. Will buy from again sometime in the near future.
A required text for two of my computer science classes. It's well organized and I enjoyed working through the book, however, I would not recommend it for people who JUST want to learn how to program in C++. Check Listmania for better recommendations for learning to code in C++.
